Mourning Light
Finding each other in a time of darkness
The unthinkable rains down,
Dripping, dripping.
Bombs explode,
Mothers crying, children dying.
Our umbrellas of confusion scant protection.
We are the witness.
Daily horrors flicker across the screen,
Neighbors kidnapped by masked men,
Protesters murdered in Minneapolis.
Children hungry, health care snatched,
The planet burning,
We are the witness.
Of our government gone rogue.
We look fragile but together we are strong.
We seem invisible but we see each other.
We gather together in our mourning.
We broadcast love to melt hatred and fear.
We broadcast love to “the other.”
We remember there is no “other.”
We remember we are all love.
We remember the power of love.
We remember we are the light.
We remember everyone is light.
We are the witness.
Waking from complacency.
We tie on our sneakers, make our signs,
Fleeing feelings of powerlessness.
No Kings Rally, March 28.
Witnessing the birth of transformation,
Of the people, by the people,
Born of love.
Are you going to the No Kings Rally? What does your sign say?

Connie, finally got around to reading your post. So very moving & so real! You bring it right down to the people suffering. We know of a group in Minneapolis who are the modern day Underground Railroad. Yes, I am going to a NO Kings Rally. My signs say: We have a Constitution Not a King, No Kings No Fascists, Resist No Kings in America.
Thank you Connie dear -- this really touches the entire spectrum of our current experience. My oximoron in response is beautiful heartbreak.
